Tilery Primary School Lockdown: What Happened?

On March 28, 2024, a significant incident unfolded in the Portrack area of Stockton, Teesside, involving armed police and a primary school lockdown. Armed police, including several police vans and officers, descended on the Portrack estate, leading to a lockdown at Tilery Primary School. The school, with over 300 students aged between 2 and 11, was preparing for end-of-term activities before the Easter holidays.

The police presence was substantial, with both Cleveland and Durham Police forces involved. Witnesses reported armed police across St Anne’s Terrace, where Tilery Primary School is located, with the school fully locked down, preventing parents from entering the school grounds. The police activity included warrants being carried out in the Stockton area as part of an ongoing operation, involving armed and unarmed officers from Durham Constabulary and Cleveland Police, along with specialist search officers and a dog section. A cordon was maintained at the addresses involved in the operation.

Tilery Primary School issued an alert to parents, advising them to bring their children to the main hall due to the ongoing police incident on the Portrack estate. The school emphasized the importance of the safety of its children, staff, and community, following its safeguarding procedures. The school later updated parents, thanking them for their patience and understanding, and confirmed that children were back in classes.

Police were also spotted on Hertford Road, approximately 1.9 miles from Portrack, with the road reportedly closed. The police operation was ongoing, with further information to be released as soon as possible.
