Stellenbosch University is looking into an alleged racist incident that occurred over the weekend at one of its student houses, in which a black first-year student was targeted.

Stellenbosch University Racism Incident: What Happened To The Student Victim?

According to the SA Students Congress, a white student broke into a black student’s room at Huis Marais’ residence and urinated on his belongings (Sasco).

Following the viral video of an alleged racist event at a Stellenbosch University home, many people are shocked and horrified. The video claims to show a white student peeing in the room of a black student.

The video on Twitter purports to show a white student at Stellenbosch University urinating in a black student’s hostel.

In the Twitter video, The black student who was filming the incident inquired as to why he was peeing in his room, but the white student is said to have said, “This is what we do to black kids.”

According to Dr Choice Makhetha, senior director of student affairs at Stellenbosch University, the institution firmly rejects any harmful behaviour, such as what occurred during the event in the Huis Marais house on the Stellenbosch campus. Makhetha went on to state that the university would investigate the matter.

What Happened To The Student Victim? Name Revealed

Huis Marais is said to be the name of the victim at Stellenbosch University. The black student was sleeping when the incident occurred on Sunday morning, according to a statement made by Sasco.

Peeing on the black student’s desk, books, and the laptop was discovered by the white student, who has not been recognized. In reality, his identity has yet to be revealed.

The incident was also brought to the notice of the resident administration throughout the day on Sunday, and it was immediately reported to the proper university groups for an immediate investigation.

Actions Taken By Stellenbosch University

The institution strongly opposes “any destructive conduct, such as [what occurred] during the event in the Huis Marais residence on the Stellenbosch campus,” according to Dr Choice Makhetha, senior director of student affairs at Stellenbosch University.

Makhetha went on to say that the incident would be looked into by the institution. Makhetha stated that “necessary and decisive action will be taken” based on the investigation’s results.

A meeting with the victim and the university has been scheduled, according to Viwe Kobokana, head of the institution’s student representative council (SRC). She indicated that after the meeting on Monday, the SRC would issue a statement.
