A pregnant woman was found hanging from a cashew tree along Uke-Ideani road in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The lifeless body was discovered on Tuesday morning, May 6, 2026.
Although the circumstances surrounding her d3ath remain unclear, it is suspected that she either committed suicide or was m8rdered on Monday night.
Police operatives from the Ogidi Police Division, who were alerted by local residents, evacuated the body and deposited it in the mortuary.
The spokesperson of the command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the incident in a statement said the State Police Commissioner has called on leader in the community to assist with investigation into the ‘suspected murder’
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc MNIPS PhD, today 6th May 2025 called on Stakeholders and Community leaders of Idemili North to assist with information to unravel the perpetrators of the suspected m8rder of a pregnant lady found hanging on a cashew tree along Uke/Ideani road,” the statement read.
“The CP described the incident as unfortunate and a stark example of “man’s inhumanity to man and ordered a thorough investigation into the incident to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
“To this end, the Command calls on members of the public to help identify the deceased, as Police Operatives from Ogidi Police Division have recovered the body and deposited it in the mortuary.”
