Paweł K Arrested In Poland, Accused of Aiding Russian Assassination Plot Against Zelenskyy
  • A Polish national, Paweł K, was arrested for allegedly aiding Russian security services in an assassination plot against Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky by providing airport security details.
  • The investigation, a joint effort between Poland and Ukraine, led to K’s detention, with charges of reporting his readiness to act for foreign intelligence.
  • This case is part of a series of reported attempts on Zelensky’s life since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

A Polish national named Paweł K has been arrested in Poland on suspicion of facilitating an assassination plot against Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky by providing sensitive information to Russian security services. The arrest was the result of a joint investigation between Poland and Ukraine. Paweł K was charged with ‘reporting his readiness to act for foreign intelligence,’ specifically for Russia, and was tasked with collecting military intelligence, including information on the security of the Rzeszów-Jasionka Airport in Poland, to help Russian special services plan a possible attack on Zelensky. The investigation, which is ongoing, was conducted by the Internal Security Agency under the supervision of the National Prosecutor’s Office in Poland, with strong collaboration from Ukrainian authorities. This case highlights the ongoing tensions and security concerns between Russia and Ukraine, as well as the international efforts to counteract potential threats to leaders and infrastructure.

The arrest of Pawel K. is part of a larger pattern of security threats and plots against Zelenskyy. For instance, Ukraine’s security service, the SBU, has previously reported foiling assassination plots against Zelenskyy, including one where a woman was arrested for gathering intelligence about his movements during a visit to the Mykolaiv region. The SBU’s investigation revealed that the woman was attempting to pass intelligence data to Russian secret services, highlighting the extent of the threat posed by foreign intelligence services.
