North Carolina cold case takes a turn after remains is identified as runaway 15-year-old girl missing since 1977

A decades-old cold case in North Carolina has taken a major turn after human r€mains found nearly 49 years ago were identified as those of a 15-year-old Maryland girl who went missing in 1977.

The remains belonged to Cindy Marcell Blizzard, who dis@ppeared from Monkton, Maryland, in the spring of 1977 after reportedly running away from home.

Her sk£l£tal remains and clothing were discovered on December 29, 1977, in a w00ded area near a Firestone manufacturing facility in Wilson County, North Carolina.

Authorities said the manner of her d£ath remains undetermined, but the case is being investigated as a h0m!cide because the circumstances surrounding where the remains were found suggested foul play.

For decades, investigators were unable to identify her, despite comparing dental records with missing-person cases.

The case was reopened in 2010 and gained fresh momentum in 2024 when North Carolina investigators used advanced DNA testing and genetic genealogy to trace potential relatives and identify Blizzard.

Authorities said the investigation remains active as they continue searching for answers about what happened to the teenager.
