A 38-year-old Nigerian-Australian citizen, Foluso Omole, has been charged in Australia over his alleged involvement in a $5 million fraud scheme targeting the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
Omole was arrested at Adelaide Airport on Friday, August 14, after authorities reportedly intercepted him while he was preparing to board a one-way flight to Nigeria.
He appeared in court on Monday, where prosecutors alleged that he had obtained information improperly from an employee of the National Disability Insurance Agency and used it to fraudulently obtain NDIS benefits.
Omole, who reportedly worked as an NDIS coordinator and operated two businesses, is also accused of transferring a significant amount of the alleged proceeds to Nigeria, where his wife resides.
He is facing two charges relating to dealing with proceeds of crime valued at more than $1 million. He has not entered a plea to the allegations.
The court reportedly denied him bail after authorities argued that he posed a flight risk.
