Navy arrests car-snatching syndicate in Abuja

Operatives of the Naval Base Abuja have arrested an alleged key member of a notorious vehicle-snatching syndicate terrorising the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). 

The suspect, Habeeb Ajadi, 39, a Physics graduate of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, was intercepted at Jere while travelling to Kaduna. 

He allegedly posed as an Inspector of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), using service number 63639 as cover. 

During interrogation, Ajadi confessed to stealing over 50 vehicles from various locations across the FCT and identified two accomplices based in Zaria, Kaduna State. 

He said the stolen vehicles were sold for between ₦1 million and ₦1.2 million each. 

Confirming the arrest, Commander, Naval Base, Abuja, Commodore Oluseyi Oladipo, said the suspect and the exhibits have been handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.

He said security forces were working on apprehending his fleeing accomplices.
