Manu Garba Appointed by NFF as Head Coach of Nigeria U17 Golden Eaglets – On April 12, 2024, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) made a significant announcement by appointing Manu Garba as the head coach of the U-17 male team, the Golden Eaglets. This appointment comes 11 years after Garba led the team to victory at the FIFA U17 World Cup for Nigeria in the United Arab Emirates in 2013. This victory marked Nigeria’s fourth triumph at the U17 World Cup stage, a feat that has not been easily replicated by any other team in the history of the competition.

Garba’s 2013 team was a formidable one, featuring notable players such as Kelechi Iheanacho, Taiwo Awoniyi, Isaac Success, Musa Mohammed, Chidiebere Nwakali, and the goalkeeper Dele Alampasu. This squad not only secured Nigeria’s fourth World Cup title but also demonstrated exceptional talent and potential for future success in the football world.

The team’s journey to the 2013 World Cup was marked by impressive performances. They started with a 6-1 victory over Mexico in their opening game, followed by a 3-3 draw with Sweden and a 5-0 win over Iraq. In the Round of 16, they defeated Iran 4-1, dispatched Uruguay 2-0 in the quarter-finals, and trounced Sweden 3-0 in the semi-finals. In the final, they defeated Mexico by the same margin to lift the trophy. This journey showcased the team’s ability to compete at the highest level and their potential to achieve great things.

This championship represents an important opportunity for the Golden Eaglets to further demonstrate their skills and potential on the international stage.

Manu Garba’s return to the helm of the Golden Eaglets is a testament to his coaching prowess and his ability to inspire and lead young players to achieve their full potential. His previous success with the team at the U17 World Cup in 2013 has set a high benchmark for future achievements, and his appointment as head coach is expected to bring a renewed sense of excitement and anticipation among fans and players alike.
