A man from Gwanda, Zimbabwe, has become a murd3r suspect following the tragic d3ath of his neighbour during a dispute over alcohol payment.
What began as a casual drinking session at Mpala Business Centre on July 9, 2025, spiralled into violence when a disagreement over unpaid alcohol turned fatal. Bright Ngulube, 48, of the Nhwali area, was arraigned before Gwanda magistrate Progress Murandu this week, charged with the murd3r of his neighbour, Bongani Ncube.
According to court prosecutor Ngonidzashe Shumba, the incident unfolded after Ngulube joined a group already drinking at a local bottle store. Tensions rose when Ncube questioned why Ngulube was drinking without contributing financially.
“The verbal exchange quickly escalated into physical violence,” Shumba told the court. “In an apparent fit of anger, the accused repeatedly struck the victim’s head with his own, causing fatal injuries.”
Ngulube was not required to plead during his initial court appearance. Magistrate Murandu remanded him in custody until August 9, 2025, pending further investigations.
The Gwanda community has been left shaken by the incident, which has reignited concern over the dangers of alcohol-fueled confrontations. Local authorities are urging residents to seek peaceful conflict resolution and to moderate alcohol intake to prevent such tragedies.
