Lawyers seal court in Enugu, protest judges? prolonged absence from physical sittings

Lawyers from the Nsukka and Obollo-Afor areas of Enugu on Tuesday, June 16, sealed the high court in Obollo-Afor over the persistent failure of judges posted to the areas to conduct physical proceedings for some years.

According to reports, judges posted to Enugu North senatorial district resorted to virtual court proceedings due to the heightened level of insecurity in the area.

Disgruntled by the refusal of the judges to come to the courtrooms for adjudication.

On June 3, the lawyers in the district marched through major streets in Nsukka to protest against what they described as the abandonment of courtrooms following the introduction of virtual proceedings.

The protests affected all five judicial divisions in the zone: Nsukka, Obollo-Afor, Enugu-Ezike, Ogbede and Umulokpa.

On Tuesday, the lawyers closed the high court in Obollo-Afor to press home their demands.
