The Gender Unit of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Niger State Command, has intervened in a reported case of alleged child s@xual abuse involving a teacher at an Islamiyah school located along the Prison Quarters in Tunga area of Minna.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSC Abubakar M.R. Muti, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, April 13, 2026.

The case was brought to the attention of the Command by the parents of the victim (name withheld), following a disturbing disclosure made by the minor.

Preliminary information indicates that the family had earlier acquired land in close proximity to the school, which led to their interaction with the alleged suspect.

According to the report, the victim had been experiencing persistent and unexplained stomach pain for over a year, resulting in several medical consultations without a definitive diagnosis.

However, a breakthrough occurred a few months ago when the child confided in her mother and alleged that she had been s3xually abused by the suspect.

The victim stated that she was taken to a room within the school premises under the pretense of carrying out cleaning duties, where the suspect allegedly forced himself on her.

“She further disclosed that she was threatened with severe consequences, including d3ath, if she revealed the incident to anyone. This threat reportedly contributed to the delay in reporting,” the statement read.

“The eventual disclosure was prompted by a sensitization message the child had received during a discussion, where children were encouraged to report any form of inappropriate touching or abuse to their parents or trusted adults.

“This guidance played a crucial role in enabling the victim to speak up.

“Upon receipt of the complaint, the NSCDC Gender Unit promptly initiated intervention in line with standard procedures for handling Gender-Based Violence (GBV) cases.

“The Unit ensured the immediate safety of the victim, documented the complaint, and conducted preliminary inquiries while maintaining strict confidentiality and professionalism.

“In furtherance of inter-agency collaboration and to ensure comprehensive care and justice, the case has been formally referred to the Niger State Ministry of Women Affairs for detailed investigation, psychosocial support services, and appropriate legal action.

“Commandant Suberu Siyaka Aniviye encourages parents, guardians, and members of the public to remain vigilant and foster open communication with children. Early reporting of abuse is critical in protecting victims and ensuring timely intervention.

“The NSCDC Niger State Command reiterates its zero tolerance for all forms of abuse and remains resolute in safeguarding the rights and dignity of vulnerable persons.”
