- The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has ordered a clampdown on vehicles without number plates in Abuja.
- The order was given by the FCT Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igweh, in response to the increasing cases of armed robbery, popularly known as “one chance”, associated with vehicles without number plates.
- Vehicles plying Abuja roads with single or no number plates will be impounded, and the drivers will be arrested and prosecuted.

Commissioner of Police Benneth Igweh has mandated the immediate impoundment of any vehicle driving without number plates or with only one plate visible.
Offending drivers will be arrested and prosecuted. This action is a response to concerns about the connection between unidentifiable vehicles and criminal activities like armed robbery, known as “one chance” robberies.
Police spokesperson Josephine Adeh highlighted the public alarm caused by this illegal practice and its impact on law enforcement effectiveness.
The crackdown also extends to car dealers, who are forbidden from parking in unauthorized areas or operating outside the legal business hours of 6:00 am to 6:00 pm.
Violating dealers will face severe legal consequences. Commissioner Igweh emphasized the need for strict enforcement to boost public safety and security in the FCT, stressing the police’s dedication to upholding the law and urging residents to report any suspicious activities.
The crackdown aims to reduce criminal activities related to unidentifiable vehicles and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements for motorists and car dealers in Abuja.
The FCT Police are committed to rigorously implementing these measures to maintain law and order in the capital city.
