According to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s detectives, Giovannie Gutierrez accosted his ex-girlfriend on Monday afternoon at her place of employment and stole her cell phone, according to KTLA. According to the sheriff’s department, witnesses claimed that Gutierrez, who was operating a white Chrysler 300M sedan, was pursuing his ex-girlfriend, who was operating a tiny automobile. At least one point during the pursuit, the two vehicles collided.

According to the sheriff’s department, both automobiles were stopped in the middle of Sierra Highway. She was on phone with her family, who had already called 911 when Gutierrez tried to get inside her car.

Her account of the incident, according to sheriff’s detective Derrick Alfred, was given to KTLA. “She told us at the time she was inside her car and Giovannie was trying to get in, was reaching through the window after he had already taken her keys. Trying to open the door, trying to pull her out of the car. And at some point he had gotten his hands around her throat,” he said.

A white Ford Ranger pulled up to the scene as Gutierrez was still attempting to get into the vehicle. According to the sheriff’s office, a pick-up truck passenger stepped out and shot Gutierrez “one in the head.”
