The Hoppas reportedly admitted to being unhappy to police that another family member’s will, which included the intended victim’s grandson as the beneficiary, had been drafted in January. The division between Joseph Hoppa and his son, he claimed, ought to have been 50/50.

Jason Hoppa said he didn’t want his brother dead, but he and his father thought the brother had tricked his grandfather into designating him as the only heir.

When a caller claimed that the Hoppas had paid a man to “take out” the intended victim, police opened an inquiry. The Hoppas met with the “hitman,” the lawsuit alleges, and gave him “$20,000 now and $20,000 when he took [the intended victim] out.”

The assassin said that the conversation happened in July. He claimed Jason Hoppa owned numerous weapons and offered to remove a gun’s serial number so it could not be tracked.

The individual claimed to have been looking for housing and had first spoken with Joseph Hoppa about a Berlin apartment. If he would “do some favours down the road,” Hoppa promised him, he could stay there. He claimed that a few weeks later, Hoppa asked him again if he could “murder someone and get away with it.”

Hoppa informed him that there was “no love here, I have no love for this kid,” regarding the intended victim.

According to the lawsuit, Hoppa allegedly said, “He’s got to go, no ifs, and, or buts, he’s got to f—ing go.”

In spite of ceasing to cooperate with law enforcement in November, the hitman eventually agreed to assist them in recording a chat with Joseph Hoppa. In that communication, Hoppa allegedly made reference to court procedures when he stated that he was waiting “until everything gets done and I get paid” and that he was not interested in having his kid killed.

Hoppa claimed to be “a Christian” and “wouldn’t do something like” hire someone to kill his son when speaking to detectives.

Joseph Anthony Hoppa Remarks

According to the lawsuit, “He claimed that even if he has grievances with his son, he wouldn’t want anything to happen.” He reiterated that he would never hire anybody or allow his son to be harmed in any way, shape, or form and that he would feel fairly horrible about that. He claimed that wasn’t who he was because he was an altar boy and was raised as a Catholic.

Hoppa, though, claimed that it was solely the hitman’s idea. But later, according to the complaint, he claimed that he could have suggested something about having his son injured.

On a $50,000 bond, the Hoppas are being detained.
