Borno woman celebrates as baby girl orphaned by insurgency graduates from nursery school 6 years after she adopted and breastfed her

A Maiduguri-based woman, Yakaka Yerima, has celebrated her adopted daughter on her graduation from nursery school.

In a Facebook post on Monday, August 3, 2026, Yakaka revealed she adopted and breastfed the child after she lost her parents to insurgency six years ago.

According to her, the baby’s father was k!lled in a terrorist attack.

Her then pregnant mother survived the attack but d!ed while giving birth to her.

Yakaka, who already had an 11-month-old baby of her own at the time, said the orphaned baby was taken to an orphanage.

She recalled how she was unable to sleep properly for three nights after hearing about the child, wondering how such a helpless baby would survive without a mother’s love.

She eventually brought the orphaned baby home and breastfed the two children together.

“Six years ago, I made one of the biggest decisions of my life. I chose to adopt a baby girl who lost her father to insurgency before she was even born and lost her mother while she was coming into this world,” she wrote.

“She was taken to an orphanage, but for three nights, I couldn’t sleep properly. I kept wondering how such a tiny, helpless baby would survive without a mother’s love.

“At the time, I already had an 11 month old baby. I brought her home, and I breastfed them both together. From that moment, she became my daughter in every way that matters.

“Today, my heart is overflowing as I watched her graduate from nursery school. The fragile little baby Allah entrusted to me is gradually becoming a big girl.

“May Allah continue to bless and protect you my darling. May He guide your steps, increase you in wisdom and goodness, and make you the coolness of my eyes.

“Congratulations, my beautiful angel. Mommy is so proud of you.”
