Andrew Nguyen Doan Throws Mother Off Building: In what authorities are calling a murder-suicide, a former University of California, Irvine student is said to have thrown his mother from a campus building before plunging to his own death.
Just before 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Irvine Police said they responded to support campus police. At Social Science Plaza B on the university campus, they discovered the bodies of Thao Thai Nguyen, 77, and her son Andrew Nguyen Doan, 36, on the ground.
According to the inquiry, Doan grabbed Nguyen and tossed her from the landing of a multi-story building, according to a statement from the police. Then, Doan leaped to his death from the same landing.
The most recent call, which involved mental health difficulties, was made to Doan in 2019, according to Irvine police.
According to Kimberly Edds, a representative for the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, Doan admitted to sexually abusing his roommate at a mental hospital in 2019 and entered a plea in 2020. He received a term of three years of probation, which expired in July, and 156 days in jail.
Doan studied biological sciences from 2017 to 2019 but did not complete his studies, according to university spokesman Tom Vasich, who talked to the publication. His mother had no connection to the institution.
