2027: We were discouraged entering Peter Obi’s stronghold — Seyi Makinde

The presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Seyi Makinde, revealed that his team was cautioned against campaigning in the South-East due to perceptions that the region strictly belongs to Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate Peter Obi.

However, Makinde declared that such warnings would not prevent him from sharing his party’s vision across the geopolitical zone ahead of the 2027 general election.

Speaking at an APM town hall meeting in Enugu, the candidate urged Nigerians to reject political visions that promote tribal and ethnic divisions.

“We were almost discouraged we were coming to Peter Obi’s region that the South-East belongs to him totally, but we will still bring our message anyways,” Makinde said.

“Reject all visions across tribal lines.” Makinde’s remarks come amid intensified political realignments as presidential hopefuls move to consolidate support nationwide ahead of the 2027 polls.

Obi, who commanded strong support in the South-East during the 2023 presidential election, remains a prominent political figure in the region.
