Mercy Johnson appeals for release of Regina Daniels’ brother

Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson Okojie has called for the immediate release of Sammy West, the brother of actress Regina Daniels.

The call came in response to his arrest amid ongoing marital disputes between Regina Daniels and her billionaire husband, Senator Ned Nwoko.

Mercy Johnson shared her thoughts on social media, condemning the detention and describing it as unjust. She highlighted concerns about Sammy’s well-being during his time in custody.

The actress questioned the procedures followed during the arrest and detention, raising alarms over the lack of legal representation and basic necessities provided to Sammy.

Details surrounding the arrest

Sammy West was reportedly arrested on Monday, following tensions linked to Regina Daniels’ marital issues.

According to reports, he was flown from Lagos to Abuja, where he was allegedly taken to court directly from the airport.

Regina’s brother, Sweezy, accused Senator Ned Nwoko of intimidation, claiming that Sammy’s detention is being used as leverage to compel Regina to return to her husband’s home.

Sweezy also stated that Sammy has been denied access to legal counsel, food, and water during the ordeal, raising questions about the legality and fairness of his detention.

Public outcry and Mercy Johnson’s stand

Reacting to the situation on Wednesday, Mercy Johnson condemned what she described as “pretended justice.”

She emphasised that the arrest of a young family member without due process represents a serious injustice.

In her social media post, she wrote: “The worst form of injustice is pretended justice. A child was arrested, no one can or has been allowed to see him for two days. He was flown from Lagos to Abuja…How did we get here? Nigeria…Wow #whereissamuel #freesamuelojelagewu.”

Her post has attracted widespread attention online, sparking public debate on legal fairness, human rights, and the accountability of influential individuals in Nigeria.
