Content creator and relationship commentator Emmanuel Obruste, popularly known as GehGeh, has revealed that the wedding ceremony that recently sparked widespread reactions online was not real but a planned publicity stunt.
The social media personality made the revelation during an interview with StreamRewind after videos from the event went viral and fuelled speculation that he had secretly tied the knot.
GehGeh explains viral wedding
According to GehGeh, the ceremony was organised as a promotional campaign and social experiment to gauge how the public would react.
He said:
“We organised everything as a normal promo. And so far, apart from the fact that we purposely did it, I still wanted to get the public’s reactions.”
Videos from the event showed GehGeh and a woman dressed in matching burgundy traditional outfits at what appeared to be a wedding ceremony.
The clips quickly generated reactions online, with many fans and fellow content creators accusing him of contradicting his long-held views on relationships and marriage.
“I never told people not to marry”
Addressing the criticism, GehGeh said many people had misunderstood the message behind what he calls the “GehGeh Wisdom and Knowledge University.”
He explained:
“Some people have a misunderstanding about my GehGeh Wisdom and Knowledge University. The major thing they have been saying is that GehGeh told them not to get married, but I got married.”
He maintained that he has never discouraged people from getting married but has always advocated for polygamy instead of monogamy.
In his words:
“I did not kick against marriage. I said, ‘Do not marry, and even if you must marry, go for polygamy.’ This is because polygamy is the path that guides a man’s heart from heartbreak.”
GehGeh explains support for polygamy
The content creator further argued that having multiple wives reduces the chances of one woman emotionally manipulating a man.
He added:
“Because when you are with different women, it will be hard for one woman to manipulate you. And this was what our forefathers practised. That is the core principle of my university.”
GehGeh’s clarification comes days after the viral wedding videos sparked intense debate on social media, with many questioning whether he had abandoned the relationship philosophy that has become central to his online persona.
