Newsypeople – Big Brother Naija (BBN) season 9 winners Kassia and Kellyrae recently opened up about their experiences in the reality show house during an interview on TVC’s Esplash.
The married couple revealed how they managed to keep their relationship under wraps from other housemates, showcasing their strategic approach to the competition.
According to Kellyrae, discipline played a crucial role in their game plan. They focused on the prize and constantly reminded themselves that their stay in the house was temporary.
Their strategy involved acting as close friends rather than revealing their marital status, believing this would help them better connect with others and increase their chances of winning.
Kellyrae explained their approach:
“First of all, discipline. You have to always remind yourself where you’re coming from and know where you’re going. And in your head, it’s better to remind yourself that it’s just a short period of time, it’s better to stay dirty for a while than to stay clean for the rest of your life. If we needed to be that way, even if it would have taken us a year, it would have been worth it.”
“We would have been able to stay a year. The thing is, when we first got into the house, she wasn’t used to it and she’s very touchy, so I had to remind her not to call me baby. But towards the end, she was the one reminding me to calm. At different times we had each other’s backs”.
Kassia shared that participating in Big Brother Naija was a long-held dream for Kellyrae. Initially hesitant about auditioning due to past disappointments, Kellyrae was eventually convinced by a friend’s persuasion. They were both surprised and thrilled to be selected for the show.
The couple’s decision to hide their marital status was partly due to Kassia’s initial discomfort with the living conditions. Kellyrae had to remind her not to display affectionate behavior that might raise suspicions among other housemates. As time progressed, however, they found ways to support each other discreetly throughout the competition.
Their disciplined approach paid off, as they emerged victorious in season 9 of Big Brother Naija. Their story serves as an example of how maintaining focus and adhering to a well-planned strategy can lead to success in high-pressure situations like the Big Brother Naija house.
