Nollywood actor Laide Olabanji has continued to express support for former Anambra State governor and NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
Taking to his Instagram page, Olabanji argued that a leader’s ability to improve a country should not be determined by how long they remain in power.
He referenced the military administrations of former Head of State Yakubu Gowon and his successor, Murtala Muhammed, to make his point.
“If someone can destroy a country in three years, another good man can make it better in just one year. Gowon ruled for nine years, Gen. Murtala Muhammed repaired it in just six months.”
Gowon ruled Nigeria for about nine years before he was removed from office in July 1975, while Murtala Muhammed became Head of State and remained in office until his assassination in February 1976.
Olabanji then urged Nigerians to look beyond ethnic considerations when deciding who should lead the country, specifically encouraging support for Obi.
“So if your tribe person can’t give you a better life, allow Peter Obi to give you a better country. The future of your children is very important.”
His remarks come amid growing political discussions ahead of the 2027 elections, with Obi remaining an active figure in Nigeria’s opposition politics.
A recent report also quoted Olabanji questioning Nigerians over whom they would trust to manage the country between the current government and Obi.
The actor has previously made public comments on political leadership and governance, continuing his advocacy around the issues he considers important to Nigeria’s future.
