  • A 36-year-old man from Witham, Essex, was arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter following the incident.

In a tragic incident, a second individual has been detained by the police as part of their investigation into the untimely demise of a renowned Gogglebox personality who met his end by plummeting 80 feet from a height after coming into contact with a plastic skylight.

The deceased, George Gilbey, a 40-year-old father, was engaged in unauthorized rooftop activities without the necessary safety equipment when he tragically passed away on March 27th.

An inquiry revealed that Gilbey succumbed to severe head and torso injuries due to the fall, which occurred when he plummeted through a skylight onto the ground level.

Authorities have confirmed the arrest of a 36-year-old suspect on charges of gross negligence manslaughter. Earlier, a 47-year-old individual was also apprehended under the same accusation but has since been released pending further inquiries.

Linda McGarry, who gained fame alongside her son on the popular Channel 4 series, shared that her son called her shortly before his fatal accident, expressing happiness and ending the conversation with a heartfelt “I love you.”

Gilbey, who was living with McGarry, was facing financial difficulties and was working various construction jobs to save money for a move closer to his daughter. His monthly income was limited to a carer’s allowance of £190 due to McGarry’s diagnosis with Parkinson’s disease.

The coroner’s officer, Deborah Frost, detailed that Gilbey was working on a roof when he fell through a plastic skylight, leading to his death at the scene. The preliminary cause of death was determined to be a traumatic injury to the head and torso, consistent with a fall from a significant height.

Gilbey, who operated his own electrical contracting business, WindG Ltd, in Clacton, also made appearances on the 14th season of Celebrity Big Brother in 2014, where he reached the finals.

Following a request from Essex Police, Coroner Mr. Brookes suspended the inquest proceedings to allow the ongoing criminal investigation to proceed without interference.
