In a shocking incident that has rocked Sokoto State, authorities have arrested two individuals in connection with the brutal murder of a motorcycle rider, Kasimu Yahaya. The victim was lured to an unfinished building, violently attacked with a hoe, and then his body was discarded in a soakaway pit before his motorcycle was stolen and sold.
The Sokoto State Police Command confirmed the arrests of Ashiru Iliyasu and Sulaiman Salihu, who are accused of plotting the crime on July 5, 2025. A third suspect, Sanusi Shu’aibu, has also been taken into custody for allegedly receiving the stolen motorcycle.

How the Gruesome Attack Happened
As per police reports, the suspects deceived Yahaya into taking them to a secluded spot under false pretenses. Once they reached the location, they unleashed violence, beating him to death with a hoe. To cover their tracks, they disposed of his body in a soakaway pit—a detail that has deeply unsettled the local community.
“The suspects have confessed to their roles in the conspiracy, armed robbery, and culpable homicide,” stated the police. Meanwhile, Shu’aibu, the man accused of receiving the stolen motorcycle, insists he did not knowingly accept any stolen property.
Police Investigation and Public Appeal
Leading the investigation is the Anti-homicide Unit of the Sokoto State Police, which is working diligently to gather evidence and corroborate statements. Authorities are encouraging anyone with more information to step forward, stressing the importance of public cooperation in achieving justice for the victim.
This case underscores the risks faced by commercial motorcycle riders, who are often targets for criminals because of the ease with which their bikes can be stolen and resold. The police have assured residents that they are ramping up efforts to combat such violent crimes.
