Marcus Monzo: ‘Mystic’ Robin Hood Impersonator Charged With Murder After Sword Rampage

  • Marcus Monzo, a 36-year-old man, was charged with murder following a violent incident in Hainault that left a 14-year-old boy dead and four others wounded.
  • Monzo’s interest in mysticism and his impersonation of Robin Hood during an archery competition weeks before the attack added layers of complexity to the case.

Newsypeople – A 36-year-old male, Marcus Aurelio Arduini Monzo, a dual citizen of Spain and Brazil residing in Newham, East London, has been detained in custody following his appearance in court today, charged with the murder of a 14-year-old boy named Daniel Anjorin and the serious injury of four others in a violent incident involving a sword in Hainault. Monzo, who is also known as FreekingMark on social media, is an amateur musician and self-described mystic, having previously participated in an archery competition dressed as Robin Hood.

Monzo faced charges including murder, two counts of attempted murder, two counts of causing grievous bodily harm, aggravated burglary, and possession of a bladed article. His social media presence includes photos of him celebrating victories in sports competitions and engaging in playful activities in Robin Hood attire. On Boxing Day last year, he shared a video of himself in similar fancy dress during an archery event, conversing in Portuguese with friends.

The court proceedings were led by Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring, who ordered Monzo’s remand in custody pending his appearance at the Old Bailey on Tuesday, unless a hearing is scheduled for Friday. The allegations against Monzo include crashing a van into a fence in Laing Close early on Tuesday morning, assaulting a member of the public, breaking into a nearby residence to attack a sleeping family, and subsequently attacking Daniel Anjorin as he walked to school.

Daniel Anjorin, a football enthusiast and a student at Bancroft’s School in Woodford Green, was remembered as a ‘true scholar’ with a ‘gentle character,’ whose life was celebrated through a GoFundMe campaign that raised over £28,000. His school, which flew its flag at half-mast in his honor, described him as a core member of their community, leaving a lasting impact with his positive nature and dedication to his studies.

The tragic event has deeply affected the local community, with neighbors and friends expressing their shock and sadness. Daniel’s parents, relying on their Christian faith to cope with their loss, were supported by friends and fellow parents from Bancroft’s School, including Grace O’Malley-Kumar’s parents, who offered their condolences and assistance.

Daniel’s death occurred shortly before 7 am on Tuesday, when he was attacked by a stranger wielding a samurai-style sword near his home. Witnesses described a scene of panic and despair as they tried to intervene but were unable to prevent the tragedy. Neighbors and friends paid tribute to Daniel’s kindness, caring nature, and the joy he brought to those around him, expressing their hope for the family’s healing and eventual reunion in heaven.
