The couple, who were in their 80s, were brutally murdered, with their throats slit by their assailants who reportedly used daggers. The gruesome discovery was made after one of the couple’s sons, concerned about not being able to reach his parents, enlisted the help of a local resident who was able to force open a window and gain access to the apartment. The remains were found in a pool of blood, indicating a violent and tragic end to the couple’s lives.

An investigation into the crime led to the arrest of Jonathan Marcus, a former driver to the deceased couple. Marcus was trailed to and arrested in his hideout in Obajana, Kogi State, following the grim discovery. He confessed to having gained access to the house on the same date of the murders, where he committed the heinous act and stole the couple’s phones and ATM cards. The FCT Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igweh, announced the arrest during a parade of suspects at the command headquarters in Abuja, stating that Marcus would soon be charged to court.
The incident, which took place on April 1, 2024, at around 11:00 PM, was initially reported by the Estate Manager of Zone D 1st gate, Apo Legislative quarters, who called to report that the couple was not responding to their calls. A security guard was then dispatched to the scene, where he forced his way into the apartment and discovered the lifeless bodies of the victims in a pool of blood, with their throats slit.
The FCT police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident and highlighted the immediate response from the authorities. The FCT Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igweh, personally visited the crime scene and directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to commence a discreet investigation into the murder. The outcome of the investigation is expected to be communicated to the public soon.
