A shocking incident unfolded in a courtroom in São José do Belmonte, Brazil, when Cristiano Alves Terto, 27, attempted to kill Francisco Cleidivaldo Mariano de Moura, his father’s alleged murderer, during Moura’s trial. Terto, armed with a 38-caliber revolver, fired six shots at Moura, who was seated at the defense table.
The footage, captured by surveillance cameras, shows Terto standing up at the back of the room, reaching into his pocket, and then moving towards Moura. Despite attempts by a woman to stop him, Terto pulled away and began his attack. Moura managed to stumble back, seemingly escaping the initial shots. As Moura sought shelter behind the magistrate’s desk, Terto continued firing shots towards him. The jury members and other court personnel fled the scene, leaving Moura and Terto in a tense standoff.
Following the shooting, Moura was taken to a local hospital before being transferred to a larger facility in Serra Talhada for treatment. Terto was arrested immediately following the incident, and the revolver he used was seized. The footage of the attack was released on Tuesday, April 4, 2024, highlighting the dramatic events that unfolded in the courtroom.
The incident was a tragic culmination of a long-standing feud between Terto and Moura. Moura had allegedly shot Terto’s father, Francisco Alves, on October 5, 2012, during a dispute over a stray donkey. Alves was taken to a hospital and later transferred to a larger facility in Arcoverde, where he died 18 days after the shooting. Moura fled to Salgueiro, where he was arrested.
The incident highlights the intense emotions and personal vendettas that can lead to such tragic events in the courtroom. It serves as a stark reminder of the importance of maintaining order and security in legal settings to prevent such incidents from occurring.
