Anita lost her long fight with cancer on December 31, 2022, at her Los Angeles home in the company of her family. She was 74.

Anita’s battle with cancer came to light in October 2021 when she was unable to perform with her sister Ruth in The Masked Singer’s sixth season because of illness.

The Pointer Sisters’ most well-known song, “Jada,” from their debut album was inspired by Her Daughter.

Anita wed David for the first time at the age of 17 in December 1965. In 1966, one year later, they got divorced.

Anita Marie Pointer was born to Reverend Elton Pointer (1901-1979) and Sarah Elizabeth (née Silas; 1924-2000) in Oakland, California, in the United States.

Despite the fact that Anita was born in California, her parents were from Arkansas. In order to visit her grandparents, the family drove virtually yearly from California to Prescott, Arkansas.

Anita was able to attend the fifth grade at McRae Elementary, the seventh at McRae Jr. High, and the tenth at McRae High School during that period thanks to Sarah letting her stay with her grandparents.

Anita was the fourth of her family’s six children, which also included the sisters Ruth, Bonnie, and June Pointer, as well as the brothers Fritz and Aaron.

Aaron, her older brother, played baseball in his earlier years and subsequently became an NFL official. In 1963 and 1966–1967, he was an MLB player with the Houston Colt.45’s/Astros.

Deron, Aaron’s son and Anita’s nephew, was an All-PAC wide receiver and returner. He spent 1994 working with the Indianapolis Colts’ practice squad.

In addition, Paul Silas, Anita’s cousin, was a basketball player and head coach. In his time as an NBA player, he won three titles, two with the Boston Celtics and one with the Seattle SuperSonics.

Although there was no mention of a cause of death in the letter, Pointer’s representative informed TMZ that she died after a “rather protracted and valiant battle with cancer.”

The singer was the fourth of six children and was born on January 23, 1948, in Oakland, California, to parents Sarah Elizabeth and Reverend Elton Pointer.
