‘Protecting your home is not about fighting’ Nigerian actor shares incident that occurred shortly after his wedding that made him give up a job

A Nigerian actor has shared how he protected his marriage when a man came with an offer shortly after his wedding.

Patrick Ifeanyi, now a father-of-three, explained that shortly after his wedding, the man came with a business proposal that would require the actor to move to Kano and leave his new wife at their home in Enugu.

Narrating the incident, Patrick wrote: ‘When I newly married my wife, just a few months into the marriage, this guy came to me with a business proposal. We were planning to open a branch in Kano, and the idea was already in the pipeline.

‘This was the same guy who once told my wife and her sister to clean their slippers before entering his car. I felt embarrassed that day, but I kept quiet.

‘Now, a few months into my marriage, he came with another instruction: “You will have to go to Kano to oversee the opening of the new branch.”

‘This was the same period Kano was hot and being ravaged by Boko boys. I looked at this man, looked at my newly married wife, and kept quiet.

‘But inside me, a serious board meeting was taking place.

‘I started wondering, “Is this man sending me to Kano to expand the business, or is he trying to create an opportunity to take over my conjugal duties?”

‘Because, honestly, people dey for this life oooo.

‘I didn’t argue. I didn’t negotiate. I simply fled from the arrangement. That was how the business plan entered the archives.

‘Looking back now, I don’t know whether I escaped a dangerous business trip or a dangerous business partner. But one thing is certain: I was not about to leave my newly married wife behind and go and become a branch manager in a place where even my own life was not guaranteed.

‘My brothers, marriage teaches you many things. Sometimes, protecting your home is not about fighting. Sometimes, it is about quietly withdrawing from a business opportunity and allowing the branch to remain permanently closed.

‘People dey for this life oooo.’
