The Super Falcons left their opening game stunned following a shocking defeat to tournament debutants Malawi after arriving at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations carrying the burden of expectation.

“So I think it was just a really testament for us of how we were able to defend and keep them. I mean, definitely don’t count us out.
“I know we obviously didn’t start the way that we wanted to, but you know, I feel like the Super Falcons always show up again and again and so I just need the fans to stay with us and stay supporting us.”
Her message was directed at Nigerian supporters who have expressed concern following the team’s inconsistent start to the tournament.

In recent days, some fans questioned whether the players’ active presence on social media and their popular TikTok videos had become a distraction.
Alozie rejected that suggestion completely.

“I don’t know. I think this team is so fun, I think we keep the spirits high.”
“We like making our TikToks. We like to bond with each other. We love social media and it’s just how we’re able to bond with each other.
“So I think everyone should just relax, allow us to be fun and build our team chemistry.”
Alozie briefly offered a glimpse into the atmosphere inside the Nigerian camp, where unity and togetherness have become vital ingredients in their bid to retain the continental title.

“A really tough game. Obviously we went down a player.
“I think it really shows the fight of the Super Falcons and how even though we’re down, we’re gonna give everything we have and I think that’s what we did.”
Nigeria’s disciplined defending frustrated Zambia’s star-studded attack, while goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie and the backline stood firm until the final whistle.

Although she walked away with the Woman of the Match award, Alozie was quick to shift the spotlight onto her teammates.
The Houston Dash defender insisted the recognition belonged to the entire squad rather than one individual.
“Yeah, that’s true, but um, I don’t even know if I really deserve man of the match.
“I think it was really a team effort and we really came out on top.”
It was a humble response that reflected the collective mentality driving Nigeria’s fightback.
