Nollywood actress Dayo Amusa has spoken out against what she describes as growing online dragging and pressure directed at entertainers and creatives over national issues.
In a post shared on social media, Amusa argued that many people in the creative industry are increasingly being attacked for expressing their opinions or continuing with their work during periods of national crisis.
She noted that filmmakers often take significant financial risks, including loans with high interest rates, to fund productions and should not be expected to suspend their livelihoods because of ongoing events in the country.
The actress also criticised social media users who pressure celebrities to constantly comment on political and security issues, insisting that public figures should not be forced to conform to online expectations.
According to her, she has chosen not to allow online criticism to dictate how she uses her platform.
Despite her concerns about online harassment, Amusa expressed sympathy for the families of the teachers and students abducted in Oyo State, offering prayers for their safe return and expressing hope that the victims would soon be reunited with their loved ones.
Her words …
“I woke up today with a very heart…The bullying many of you subject our colleagues to in the creative industry is crazy…
They freely can’t share their opinion, they can’t post their jobs without being called insensitive..
We go to bank to take loans to shoot movies with high interest rate, but you want us to suspend our jobs and be posting videos of kidnapping and cursing the government daily while you’re in your own office tweeting and enjoying your environment..
The day i decided to start using this app actively, I’ve made up my mind that many of you trolls don’t matter..I won’t pander to mobs as I didn’t build my brand on it..
I have other strings of income, don’t come under my post to act silly, I’ll send you home…
That said, May God bring succor to the family of the kids and teachers kidnapped in Oyo state..May they return home safely 🙏”
