The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has sacked Otto Addo as head coach of the Ghana men’s national team.
The decision comes as a shock, arriving just three months before the FIFA World Cup.
Addo’s dismissal was confirmed in an official statement, which reads:
“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has parted ways with the Head Coach of the Senior Men’s National Team (Black Stars), Otto Addo, with immediate effect. The Association wishes to thank Otto Addo and his assistants for their services to Ghana football and wish them the best in their future endeavors. The GFA will in due course announce a new technical direction for the Black Stars.”
The decision follows Ghana’s 2–1 defeat to Germany at the MHP Arena in Stuttgart, marking the team’s fourth consecutive loss.

Reports suggest the heavy 5–1 defeat to Austria also played a significant role in the GFA’s decision.

Despite the recent poor run of form, Addo played a key role in Ghana’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, recording six wins and one draw during the campaign.
He also guided the team to qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Overall, Addo managed 22 matches, recording eight wins, five draws, and nine defeats a win rate of 36.4 percent.
