Rulani Mokwena Leaves MC Alger and Secures New Role at Al Ittihad

Rulani Mokwena has parted ways with MC Alger after eight months in charge despite leading the club to the Algerian Super Cup.

Reports indicate that the South African coach was not dismissed.

Instead he activated a release clause in his contract to leave the club, a decision that required him to pay the equivalent of two months salary.

Mokwena departs while MC Alger sit at the top of the Algerian Ligue 1 table.

His time at the club had mixed results. While he secured the Algerian Super Cup, MC Alger were eliminated from the Algerian Cup and the CAF Champions League.

MC Alger expressed their appreciation to the 39 year old coach through a message posted on the club’s official social media platforms.

“The management of MC Algeria would like to express its gratitude and appreciation to coach Rolani Mokwena and his technical staff for the work and efforts they have put forward during their supervision of the team, they wish them all the best and success in their upcoming professional stations.”

Mokwena also shared an emotional farewell message to the club and its supporters.

Gratitude. Respect. Emotion. Today I say thank you to MC Alger. It has been an honour and a privilege to be part of such a historic club and to share this journey with incredible players, dedicated staff and the most passionate supporters.

Football brings many moments, but the bonds created through honesty, hard work, and shared belief are the ones that stay with you forever.

To the players and staff thank you for your commitment, your effort and the spirit we tried to build together every day.

To the supporters of MC Alger, your passion is extraordinary. The atmosphere you created, especially at our home stadium, is something I will never forget. Hearing you sing Ballon et Cinema will always remain one of the most emotional and beautiful memories of my career.

Although this chapter comes to an end with sadness, I leave with deep gratitude and humility for having been part of this family, even for a short time.

I wish the club, the players, and all the supporters continued success and many proud moments ahead.

With sincere respect and thanks.
