Daniel Daga Plans to Appeal Six-Month Sentence

A Nigerian youth international, Daniel Daga, has reportedly been sentenced to six months in prison by a District Court in Norway after being found guilty of engaging in a sexual act without the consent.

The verdict was delivered on Tuesday, 10 March 2026. The case has reportedly been ongoing since April 2025.

The 19-year-old midfielder has also been ordered to pay approximately $900 in legal costs, a sentence that aligned with the prosecution’s request.

Daga has denied the allegation and insists he is being framed.

His lawyer, Astrid Bolstad, said the Molde midfielder is deeply disappointed by the court’s decision and maintains that the encounter was consensual.

Bolstad told the press, “He is very upset about the verdict. He believes he is innocent and that everything happened with consent.”

She also added that the judgment will be appealed.

Molde also released a statement addressing the situation and expressing support for the player while acknowledging the seriousness of the case.

“This is a very difficult case for everyone involved,” the club said in a statement.

“As an employer, Molde Football Club has a responsibility to take care of our employees in a responsible manner while also having great respect for the seriousness of the case and the burden it places on all affected parties.”

The club added that it understands the seriousness of the case and confirmed that the player will be excluded from the squad until further notice.
