Crystal Palace’s recent clash against Tottenham Hotspur has made it impossible for Christantus Uche to reach the 10 Premier League starts required to trigger his permanent transfer from Getafe.
Uche has made 14 Premier League appearances for Crystal Palace during the 2025/26 season, all as second-half substitutes, totaling just 159 minutes across 29 games.
The season-long loan deal between Palace and Getafe included a conditional obligation to buy, which would have become permanent if Uche made 10 Premier League starts.
The purchase price was set at approximately £17.3 million.

With Uche unable to meet this requirement, he may have to return to Getafe.
The Spanish club, however, is likely to be uninterested in keeping him not because he is not important to head coach José Bordalás but because of the financial constraints under La Liga’s Financial Fair Play rules and Uche being one of the club’s best talent represents both a sporting and market opportunity for Getafe.
Clubs in Spain must balance their books and often sell players to register new signings. Getafe’s financial situation is particularly tight.
La Liga has reduced the club’s salary limit to €34.8 million, down from €50.7 million.
Several players occupy high salaries that weigh heavily on this limit.

Borja Mayoral earns €4.79 million per year, Mauro Arambarri €3.74 million, Juan Bernat €3.74 million, and Djené €3.12 million.
These high wages, combined with the need to register new players, create pressure on Getafe to make tough decisions this summer.
Uche’s future is now one of the most interesting situations to monitor in the summer transfer window.
