Former Gombe State FA Chairman, Shuaibu Gara Gombe has described the reported demands by Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle as an attempt to blackmail the NFF, insisting such actions should not be tolerated.
Speaking to Brila.net Gara Gombe stated that provisions had already been made for some of the demands allegedly put forward by the coach.
He questioned the rationale behind Chelle’s requests, particularly the call for full control over team selection.
According to Gara Gombe, Chelle had earlier described his appointment as a privilege and an honor during his maiden press conference.
“He said it was a privilege and an honor to coach Nigeria. It was like we were helping him, and we did help him, but he didn’t help us,” Gombe said.
He further argued that many of the demands were already in place during his tenure.

“Those things he is demanding, he was given. I am aware of that. So why come back with these demands if not blackmail? Was he working on the streets?
“Was he using public transport or sleeping outside? For goodness’ sake, if he wants to leave, he should leave us alone,” he added.

Gara Gombe also raised concerns about Chelle’s reported insistence on having full control over player selection.
“He said he wants full control of selection of the team. What does that mean? Are you saying that all this while you have not been in charge, that someone else has been selecting players for you?
“If that is the case, he should come out and tell Nigerians and the whole world that he has not been selecting players for the national team so we know who to blame.”
