WAFU B Cancelled!! Super Falcons Sets Up Two-Legged Friendly vs Cameroon

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have suffered a major setback in their build-up to the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) following the cancellation of the proposed WAFU B four-nation tournament.

This have resulted in the reigning African champions with limited competitive action ahead of the continental tournament in Morocco.

With the tournament called off, the Super Falcons currently have no confirmed competitive matches before WAFCON 2026.

This is a worrying development as the team also prepares for crucial 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifiers.

Cameroon Friendlies Step In After WAFU B Cancellation

In response to the cancellation, Nigeria’s women’s national team has now scheduled a two-leg international friendly series against Cameroon as part of its WAFCON 2026 preparations.

The Super Falcons will face the Indomitable Lionesses in Yaoundé during the FIFA Women’s International Window running from 24 February to 7 March 2026.

Specifically, both teams will clash:

Nigeria vs Cameroon: Familiar Rivals Renew Hostilities

The upcoming fixtures revive a familiar rivalry between the two African powerhouses.

The last time both teams met in a friendly was ahead of the previous Women’s AFCON, also hosted by Morocco.

On that occasion, the Super Falcons recorded a 2–0 victory over Cameroon at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex, Abeokuta, setting the tone for their title-winning campaign.

“Everything Has Been Concluded” – NFF

Nigeria Football Federation General Secretary, Mohammed Sanusi, confirmed that all arrangements for the Cameroon friendlies have been finalised.

He said, word for word:

“We have concluded everything that has to do with the two friendly matches, in conjunction with our counterpart body in Cameroon, FECAFOOT.”

“Our commitment is to ensure that the Super Falcons are well-prepared to retain their WAFCON title in Morocco and qualify for next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup finals in Brazil.”

CAF Confirms WAFCON 2026 Dates and Stakes

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that the 13th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations will take place in Morocco from 17 March to 3 April 2026.

The Super Falcons enter WAFCON 2026 as defending champions and 10-time winners of the competition.

They lifted their historic 10th title in Morocco last summer after victories over Tunisia, Botswana, Zambia, South Africa, and hosts Morocco.

The stakes are high, as all four semi-finalists at the tournament will qualify directly for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup finals in Brazil.
