Senegal CB Kalidou Koulibaly is in mourning following the death of his father, Dabele Koulibaly, who sadly passed away on Monday, in France.
The tragic news comes just one week after Koulibaly captained Senegal to Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) glory, marking a bittersweet moment in the defender’s illustrious international career.

Senegal Football Federation (FSF) confirmed the loss and paid tribute to the Koulibaly family in an official message shared on X (formerly Twitter):
“Passing of the father of Kalidou Koulibaly, captain of the Lions of Senegal, which occurred on Monday, January 26, 2026, in France. The Senegalese Football Federation extends its deepest and most heartfelt condolences to his family and to the entire Senegalese football community.
May his soul rest in peace. “
Koulibaly played a crucial role in Senegal’s AFCON-winning campaign, featuring in five of the team’s seven matches.
