Morocco Announce AFCON 2025 Squad as Hakimi’s Fitness Remains Uncertain

Morocco head coach, Walid Regragui has released his 28-man squad for AFCON 2025, with PSG star Achraf Hakimi included despite concerns over his availability for the group stage.

Hakimi was forced off during PSG’s match against Bayern Munich after a heavy challenge from Luis Díaz.

Initial assessments indicated he would require up to six weeks of recovery, placing his participation in Morocco’s early matches at serious risk.

His condition continues to be evaluated by medical staff.

The Atlas Lions’ squad features key players such as Azzedine Ounahi, Nayef Aguerd, Sofyan Amrabat, Brahim Díaz, Chemsdine Talbi, and Noussair Mazraoui, reinforcing Morocco’s ambitions for the tournament.

Their historic 2022 World Cup semi-final run has increased scrutiny, establishing them as favourites in every continental tournament since.

The urgency to win is at the top as Morocco last lifted the AFCON trophy in 1976, almost five decades ago.

The Atlas Lions are placed in Group A alongside Comoros, Mali, and Zambia. They will kick off their campaign on 21 December against Comoros.
