CAF President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe has declared that the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco will rank among the finest competitions worldwide.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, Motsepe emphasized the event’s potential to surpass previous editions in both quality and global reach.

“The AFCON in Morocco, starting in December and continuing into January, is going to be the most exciting, the best football that we’ve seen in African football — as good as the best in the world — and it will continue until January next year,” he stated.
Motsepe pointed to the success of the 2023 AFCON, revealing that the tournament attracted an impressive global audience.
“In Côte d’Ivoire, we had 1.5 billion people worldwide in approximately 180 countries watching the AFCON. And we expect that this edition will be a celebration of the highest quality football — not just in Africa, but worldwide,” Motsepe added.

Beyond the on-pitch action, Motsepe described the Morocco-hosted AFCON as a unifying cultural moment for Africa’s global community.
“It’s also a celebration of the diaspora. Millions of Africans across Europe, America, South America, and around the world who love football will watch and see that African football is as good as the best in the world,” he said.
Morocco, hosting the AFCON for the first time since 1988, is poised to leverage its world-class infrastructure to elevate the tournament.
