Akor Adams Returns as Sevilla Fall to Mallorca

Akor Adams made his return to club football following an impressive international break with Nigeria, featuring in Sevilla’s 3-1 La Liga defeat to Mallorca.

The striker had played over 116 minutes for Nigeria during the break, prompting head coach Matías Almeyda to start him on the bench rather than rush his return.

Isaac Romero started ahead of Adams but struggled to make an impact.

Sevilla’s only goal of the match came through Rubén Vargas, while Mallorca capitalised on the host’s defensive errors to seal the victory.

Adams was introduced in the 71st minute, replacing Romero.

The forward had a quiet appearance but still managed to create one chance from three passes, with one of those progressing into the final third.

Defensively, he made one clearance, one ball recovery, and won two aerial duels.

Speaking after the match, Almeyda reflected on Sevilla’s performance:

“We took the lead, and the match was going well. We were finding our rhythm, not allowing the opponent to grow into the game. We had the chance to go into halftime ahead.

“In football, teams like ours can’t afford to waste chances. The opponent maintained their structure and were well organized . I think in the second half we made too many mistakes. That reflects our current reality.”

With Romero failing to impress and Sevilla continuing to search for consistency, Adams will be hoping to earn a place in the starting lineup for their next La Liga fixture against Real Sociedad.
