Awoniyi Makes First Appearance Since Recovering from Ruptured Intestine and Induced Coma

Taiwo Awoniyi made his return to action in Nottingham Forest’s 3-0 loss to Chelsea, marking his first competitive appearance of the season.

Awoniyi had been out of action since recovering from a serious abdominal injury last season.

The Forward featured for 45 minutes, and he nearly made a dream return after intercepting a poor pass from Malo Gusto but fired his effort just wide.

While on the pitch, Awoniyi completed six passes, created one chance, made one tackle, and recorded three ball recoveries.

He showed great physicality winning three ground duels.

Fans were delighted to see Awoniyi back in Premier League action, fit and healthy after his long recovery.

The match also marked a turning point for the club off the pitch.

Meanwhile, Ange Postecoglou was dismissed as Nottingham Forest head coach shortly after the final whistle.

Postecoglou was informed of the decision immediately after the match, he said goodbye to the players in the dressing room, and left the stadium without addressing the media.

The club confirmed the news in a statement on social media:

“The club can confirm that after a series of disappointing results and performances, Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties as head coach with immediate effect. The club will make no further comment at this time.”

Postecoglou’s tenure ends after a disappointing run of eight matches without a win, including six defeats.

According to reports from David Ornstein, Nottingham Forest have already begun the search for a new manager.

Sean Dyche and Roberto Mancini are currently the leading candidates.
