U-17WWC: Nigeria’s Yahaya Hits Hat-trick in Flamingos 3-2 Friendly Win

Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, wrapped up their preparations for the upcoming FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup with an impressive 3–2 victory over Paraguay in Casablanca on Tuesday.

The Bankole Olowookere-led side showed sharpness and attacking intent early in the contest, continuing their fine form in friendly games ahead of the tournament in Morocco.

Flamingos Early and Clinical Finishing

It took just two minutes for Nigeria to announce themselves. Goalkeeper Elizabeth Boniface launched a long pass that picked out Shakirat Moshood, who intelligently assisted Mariam Yahaya to chip the Paraguayan goalkeeper for the opener.

Paraguay capitalized on a defensive lapse from Christiana Sunday to equalize in the 15th minute, but Yahaya restored Nigeria’s advantage just before halftime with a fine close-range finish in the 44th minute.

A minute later, the striker completed her hat-trick after a superb through ball from Kaosarat Olanrewaju, giving the Flamingos a commanding 3–1 lead going into the break.

Dominant Second-Half Display

The second half saw Nigeria maintain control, with Moshood and Ayomide Abubakar both testing the Paraguayan goalkeeper.

Substitute Sylvia Echefu also impressed, making crucial saves to keep the South Americans at bay.

Although Paraguay pulled one back late in the match, the Flamingos held firm to secure their 12th friendly win ahead of the World Cup.

The team has now scored 50 goals and conceded just six in those matches, sharpening their attack and defensive discipline heading into the World Cup.
