Nigerian Duo Impress in Rome

The match also witnessed another Nigerian debutant, Shukurat Oladipo, who came off the bench in the 63rd minute to make her first appearance for Roma.

The Super Falcons defender brought defensive stability as the reigning champions comfortably closed out the game.

For Nigerian football, the two Super Falcons players featuring prominently for the Italian giants tells the country’s growing influence in European women’s football.

Babajide’s Joy and Journey to Roma

Babajide took to social media after the game, posting:

“League debut; First league goal of the season; First win of the season. All praise to God”

The London-born forward joined Roma in July 2025 on a contract running until June 2027, after a standout season with Costa Adeje Tenerife in Spain, where she scored 10 goals and provided five assists in 26 appearances.

She had already opened her account for Roma last month in the Coppa Italia against Sassuolo, and her league debut goal further cements her status as a key signing for the club.

Babajide previously played for Millwall, Watford, Liverpool, Brighton, and later Real Betis before flourishing in Spain.

She represented England at youth level between 2015 and 2019 but switched allegiance to Nigeria in 2023.

Roma’s Title Charge Begins Strong

The victory keeps Roma’s perfect start to the new Serie A campaign intact as they aim to reclaim the league title, which they last won in 2024, completing a historic treble that year.
