Nollywood actress Funke Akindele has sparked conversation after responding to a fan who begged her for a phone online. The fan had written a message pleading for help, claiming not to own a phone.
Reacting, the actress expressed disbelief and questioned the logic behind the request. “What did you use to type message, why are you lying?” she asked.
She noted that not everyone needs to own an expensive device, stressing that contentment is more important.
According to Akindele, there was no reason to make false claims simply to gain sympathy. “Is it compulsory to use big phone? Contentment is key o,” she warned, adding that honesty should come before any form of assistance.
‘Contentment Is Key’
The actress, who recently checked in with her online followers, said she was surprised by the plea. “I just woke up and said let me check my people, and the first thing I’m seeing is ‘please ma I don’t have a phone’,” she remarked.
She highlighted that social media has become a space where many people now attempt to exploit celebrities with exaggerated stories. For her, humility and truthfulness remain better approaches than false desperation.
Her comments have since ignited a broader debate on entitlement culture and the growing trend of fans seeking financial or material assistance from celebrities.
