Peter Obi disrespected Yorubas and Ibadan people by calling Olubadan ‘My brother’ — Oriyomi Hamzat

Popular Nigerian broadcaster, Oriyomi Hamzat opined that the former Labour party presidential candidate, Peter Obi disrespected Yorubas and Ibadan people by refering to the new Olubadan, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja as his ‘Dear Brother’.

Mixed reactions had trailed Peter Obi’s goodwill message to the monarch, following his coronation on Friday, 26th September.

In his message, Peter Obi had referred to the Oba as ‘My Dear Brother’, a remark that hasn’t sat right with some folks.

While Peter Obi has already clarified his reason for using such salutation for the king, the Ibadan broadcaster, Oriyomi Hamzat opined that the remark was a disrespect.

He and his guests debated the remark, wondering why he had used such words that even the president didn’t use.

Reno Omokri’s scathing reaction

Reno Omokri had blasted Peter Obi earlier over same, opining that the word was the wrong one to be used to address a monarch, further stating that Peter Obi wouldn’t be turning Nigeria’s president.

Peter Obi’s response to critics

Peter Obi had earlier clarified that his calling Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja his dear brother wasn’t an attempt at disrespect, but because they are close friends.
