Onuachu and André Onana Combine to Earn Trabzonspor Point Against Gaziantep

Trabzonspor and Gaziantep F.K. shared the spoils in their game week six Turkish Süper Lig clash, with a 1-1 draw.

Kevin Rodrigues opened the scoring for Gaziantep, before Nigerian forward Paul Onuachu equalized to rescue Trabzonspor from defeat.

Despite dominating the game, the hosts had to settle for a point. They were frustrated by the referee’s decisions condemning Arda Kardeşler on their official social media platforms for unfair officiating.

Trabzonspor urged the Turkish Football Federation to remove Kardeşler from match duties with immediate effect.

“This image reveals the bad intentions and unethical behavior of a referee in the most explicit way. For justice, for rights, for the sweat that has been shed; it is inevitable that the Turkish Football Federation must take immediate action against this referee who deliberately obstructed our attack. This person should not be allowed to take on duties in Turkish football again.”

On the pitch, Trabzonspor were clearly the better side. They recorded 27 shots, seven on target, created four big chances, missing three, and completed 328 passes. In contrast, Gaziantep managed just four shots, with only one on target.

The standout performers for the home side were Paul Onuachu and André Onana.

Onuachu, who was a constant threat throughout the match, could have had a brace but was denied by the woodwork on one occasion.

The Super Eagles striker registered seven shots, with three on target. He operates as a ball playing forward an attribute that sets him apart from many strikers in the Turkish top flight.

Onuachu made two passes into the final third, created one chance, and completed 75% of his dribbles.

His all-round contribution was very good, as he also helped defensively with two clearances, two ball recoveries, and successful completion of three ground duels and five aerial duels.

Cameroon international, André Onana also played a pivotal role, despite not facing much action between the sticks.

He registered an assist, delivered 14 accurate passes including eight long balls and created two chances.

Onana recovered the ball five times. Though he didn’t record any saves, his distribution helped in Trabzonspor’s build-up play from the back.
