Nigeria’s hammer throw star, Sade Olatoye has set her sights on surpassing her personal best and securing a medal at the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Tokyo this September.
The 29-year-old Olympian, who has been in strong form this season, delivered a Season’s Best (SB) throw of 70.27m at the recent Edmonton Athletics Invitational in Canada.
Buoyed by that performance, Olatoye believes she is on track to peak at the global event.
“For myself early in the season and mid-season, I keep just striving for the best; there’s still so much more season left,” Olatoye said.
“The World Championships are mid to end of September, and maybe a few meets after that, so there’s definitely more time to get better. I expect all my teammates to perform at their highest level.”
The Ohio State University graduate also called for continued investment and support for Nigeria’s track and field athletes as they prepare to represent the nation on the world stage.
“Given the proper resources and support, I know we’re capable of so much. As long as we have that backing from our fans and federation, we will continue to strive to improve every year,” she added.
“I’m excited for what we can do at this World Championship.”
Sade Olatoye, who holds a personal best of 72.39m, is one of Nigeria’s leading medal hopefuls in Tokyo. Her focus remains on consistent improvement as she builds propulsion for what could be a historic outing for Nigerian athletics.
