Odion Ighalo Becomes Free Agent After Al-Wehda Exit

Nigerian striker, Odion Ighalo has become a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Al-Wehda Saudi Club.

Ighalo joined the Mecca-based side in August 2023, signing a two-year deal after leaving Al-Hilal Saudi Football Club.

During his spell with Al-Wehda, the 36-year-old made 68 appearances in all competitions and scored 23 goals, proving to be a consistent performer for the club.

The former Watford and Manchester United striker has left his mark on the Saudi Pro League, where he is now among the competition’s top 10 all-time goal scorers.

Ighalo occupies ninth place on the list with 73 goals in the league, a milestone that places him alongside some of the most prolific forwards to have played in Saudi Arabia.

His tally was recently surpassed by Al-Nassr Saudi Club forward Cristiano Ronaldo during the 2024/25 campaign.

Ighalo’s move to Saudi Arabia in 2021, initially with Al-Shabab Saudi Club, began a successful chapter in his career that later included title success with Al-Hilal and a strong individual run at Al-Wehda.

His consistency in front of goal helped raise the profile of African strikers in the region, while also enhancing his reputation as one of Nigeria’s most accomplished exports.

With his contract at Al-Wehda now concluded, Ighalo is considering his options for the future.

The former Super Eagles striker is yet to announce his next destination as he weighs the possibility of continuing in Asia, returning to Europe, exploring other leagues, or hanging up his boots.
