Young Nigerian goalkeeper, Ebenezer Harcourt has expressed heartfelt gratitude to the senior players and coaching staff of the Super Eagles after making his first senior appearance.
The 15-year-old featured in Nigeria’s 2-0 victory over Congo at the African Nations Championship (CHAN) on Tuesday.
Harcourt praised the support he received from the more experienced goalkeepers in the squad.
“It’s my first time being with high-level players like the stars of the NPFL. They embraced me as their own, guided me well, taught me, and gave me confidence,” he said.
He described the guidance from senior players and coaches as crucial to his development, noting how much it has boosted his confidence on the big stage.
Reflecting on his breakthrough, Harcourt emphasized the value of opportunity and preparation.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity. I made use of my chances, and this platform is one of the biggest stages of my football career,” he added.
The teenager also acknowledged that he is still learning and said hard work and support will be key to his growth.
“With the guidance of the goalkeeper coach, I believe that I’ll be great,” he said.
Harcourt’s debut also set a new milestone, surpassing Femi Opabunmi’s record set in 2002 as the youngest player ever to feature for the Super Eagles.

His performance and maturity on the field at such a young age underscores his potential to become a cornerstone for Nigerian football in the years ahead.
