Zaidu Sanusi delivered a standout performance as FC Porto secured a comfortable 2–0 victory over Gil Vicente in their second league match of the season on Monday night.
Porto got off to a bright start and broke the deadlock in the 20th minute when new signing Victor Frøholdt powered a header into the bottom corner after meeting a pinpoint cross.
They doubled their advantage just two minutes into the second half, in the 47th minute, with Sanusi at the heart of the move.
The Nigerian left-back surged down the wing and sent in a precise delivery that Brazilian forward Pepe converted to seal the win.
Beyond his assist, Sanusi put in an all-round display that highlighted both his defensive solidity and attacking energy.

He completed 92% of his passes, won 100% of his tackles, and added 3 clearances, 1 interception, and 7 ball recoveries. He also created a big chance and ensured Porto maintained a clean sheet.
The 28-year-old endured a frustrating 2024/25 campaign after an ACL injury kept him sidelined for long spells. His strong return this season has been timely, especially after summer rumours suggested Porto were open to selling him.
Instead, under new manager Francesco Farioli, Sanusi has been reinstated as a key part of the squad and looks set for an important role in the coming months.
The victory lifted Porto to third in the Primeira Liga standings with six points from two matches. Their +5 goal difference keeps them behind Sporting Braga (+6) and Sporting CP (+8), who also maintained perfect starts.
Farioli’s side will aim to build momentum when they travel to face Casa Pia on Sunday, with Sanusi once again expected to provide balance in both defence and attack as Porto push to reclaim the league title.
